Israel Velasco
For nearly four decades, Israel Velasco has been a cornerstone of South Florida’s civic and philanthropic community. His dedication to uplifting others extends far beyond the boardroom. It is a lifelong calling that has shaped organizations, opened doors for young people, and strengthened the financial fabric of the region.
One of Israel’s most enduring contributions is his decades-long service with Junior Achievement of Greater Miami. Since 1988, he has served as Chairman and he currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. For more than 35 years, he has championed financial literacy and career readiness for thousands of young people across Miami-Dade County, investing his time, expertise, and leadership into an organization that transforms lives.
As a Lifetime Honorary Member of the Board of Directors for the South Florida Chapter of the March of Dimes, Mr. Velasco has stood alongside families facing some of life’s most challenging moments, lending his voice and influence to the fight for healthier pregnancies and stronger babies.
His commitment to financial education, access, and empowerment is further reflected in his ongoing involvement with Florida International University President’s Council, his 20-year tenure as Chairman of the Board of the Center for Financial Training in South Florida (2002–2022), and his previous Board membership at Operation HOPE, Inc.
Israel’s career in banking spans nearly 40 years. As Florida Region Executive for Popular Bank, he oversees all operations and lines of business including Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, and Popular Association Banking. Israel is highly regarded for his experience and leadership by colleagues and customers alike, and his career reflects not just financial acumen, but a deep understanding of the needs of the communities he supports.
