nat moore
One of the most celebrated players in Miami Dolphins history and a longtime team executive, Nat Moore currently serves as the Dolphins’ Senior Vice President, Special Projects, Alumni Relations & Advisor to CEO. A third-round draft choice for Miami in 1974 out of the University of Florida, Nat spent the entirety of his 13-year NFL career with the Dolphins, helping the team reach Super Bowls XVII and XIX and starting in the 1977 Pro Bowl while earning All-Pro recognition that same season. Moore was named the team’s Most Outstanding Receiver for six consecutive seasons (1974-79) and remains among the all-time leaders in team history in multiple receiving categories including touchdowns (2nd with 74), receptions (3rd with 510), and yards (3rd with 7,546).
Establishing a reputation of giving both on and off the field led Moore to be named the 1984 “Man of the Year,” an honor bestowed on the player who gives outstanding service to his community, and earned him the 1986 Byron White Humanitarian Award for his service to his team, community, and country.
Since retiring from professional football in 1987, Moore, who was raised in Miami, has dedicated himself to giving back to the South Florida community that supported him throughout his career. Miami Dolphins Founder, Joe Robbie, renamed the team’s community service award in Nat’s honor and in 1998, he founded The Nat Moore Foundation to support nonprofits that serve children and youth that had limited capacity to raise adequate funding for their missions. For more than 10 years, Nat hosted football clinics at local parks to provide underserved children and youth in the South Florida community with the opportunity to learn how to play football in a fun and safe environment.
Recognition for Nat’s advocacy continued after his playing career, having earned numerous awards in honor of his work in the South Florida community. In 2013, he was named the Michael Shores Citizen of the Year by the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club, an organization who serves the children of Miami’s inner city, where Moore grew up. In 2020, Moore earned the Giving Gracefully Award from the OMBI Group, which honors committed, and passionate athletes devoted to making an impact in their communities, for his dedication to the South Florida community through charitable giving.
In 2018, the Miami Dolphins organization partnered with the Nat Moore Endowment and Vocational Fund to provide South Florida youth with the financial resources needed to purse avenues of educations and training for employment readiness. Both the scholarship and the vocational grant are designed to bolster efforts in bridging the gap between receiving financial assistance and obtaining a degree or vocational diploma. Since its inception, the Nat Moore Scholarship & Grant Endowment Program has awarded over $2 million to more than 170 students in South Florida.
In 2019, CBS4 created The Nat Moore Trophy to recognize the top high school football player across Miami-Dade, Broward or Monroe County, amplifying the talent in South Florida. The recipient of the award is recognized not only for their talent on the field, but for their character, leadership, and their impact on the community.
